Marriage agency scam: Claiming affiliate is spamming

Finally I heard something from ualadys.com regarding my complaints about spamming.

They claim that the docmaildirect.info and lovewather.com / lovingcore.com / loveentity.com sites did not belong to them but that it must be an affiliate who also did the spamming. They will try to find that affiliate and cancel payment.

I must admit there are a few things I find odd about that answer

  1. I have not been able to find any public information about an affiliate program for ualadys.com or any of the other NNladys.com sites.
  2. User information was submitted directly and imediately from lovewather.com etc. to ualadys.com and the sites had list of girls matching exact same profile information as on ualadys.com etc. This means that the affiliate program must offer a public API like for example web services, and I have asked for information about this API
  3. Lovewather.com was using a special .rpx extension for their web site and when looking at the generated HTML code it mentioned an RPX source v.125, install v. 127. I have not seen this before.... except for ualadys.com that use exactly the same
  4. If they are really using affiliates then I would expect that they have quite precise information in the database linking the affiliate to that user account I created in my research of the spam, since the user information was submitted directly from the alleged affiliate site. So it should be very easy to lookup the affiliate, no need to start investigation in order to find the affiliate, as is what ualadys.com told me they will do.
So I must say I'm not convinced yet, especially since the decoy of claiming that affiliate is the one behind spamming has been seen many times before, where it have turned out to either not be true or to be true but being an "affiliate" that have been hired to do the spamming. But let me see what they come up with next, they have promisted to keep me informed of the investigation, and I can not entirely rule out the possibility that an affiliate have been behind the spamming without the knowledge of ualadys.com. But in that case I would expect to see an apology on their website, any serious company would do that in order to preserve their image... even though searching on the net shows that it's not that good already, but at least not to make it worse.

I was in Chernigov from January 18th, 2009 to January 26th, 2009 on a trip by this UAladys agency. The whole experience has been BAD. My original plan was to stay there for two weeks. I have to end up cutting my trip to one week because I cannot stay there any longer!

The whole experience had taught me:
1. Paid correspondences are questionable. Because the agency has the incentive to have the clients keep sending their correspondence, they will fake the letters either on their own discretion or convince the lady to fake the letters. I don’t know who faked the letters they sent me, but sometimes when I mentioned the things in her reply letters, my girl seemed not to remember!
2. We the guys in North America or the Western Countries are not fighting a downhill battle here. The girls here are not in a hurry to marry you! They have plenty of male supplies in their own country. I’ve seen the girls and guys in the clubs in Chernigov. They just want to have another backup! Even the agency is a marriage agency, the girl I correspond to was NOT in a mood to marry!
3. If you do decide to come to meet the lad(ies) despite the letters may be fake, come with a friend who can speak Russian because if you are trapped, you can still safely return to your own country. I was lucky to meet a young driver around my age and knew a little bit of English. He showed me around the city and helped me to leave the country.

You may say I should have corresponded with multiple girls so as to diversify my risk. If I correspond with multiple girls, what I will get is more phony emails sent by I don’t know who. Yes, maybe I will get the chance to meet all of them. But how many of them will act according to what they write in the letters?
Trust the things on this website and do not trust anything on the UAladys website! I was so stupid to believe in the *ought to be genuine* stuff on their website and go there. I can show you the pictures and correspondences with the ladies if you want to know if I really did go there. My email address is liangyq2001@hotmail.com My member ID on their website was 96146.

Ukraine Marriage Agency Trip Reflection
At the time I am typing this article, I am at Kiev International Airport awaiting for my re-booked flight back to my home country. I paid extra penalty charges to re-book this flight because I need to get out of the city and go back to my home country as quickly as possible.
In this article, I will tell you about my entire UA Dream trip in a city called Chernigov, Ukraine. I will tell you about what happened, and what I thought about it back then and now.
But before I go to the main article, I think it’s necessary to talk a little bit about myself so that people will know where I am coming from and whether my background & experiences apply to you. I am a Canadian citizen. I am 27 years old. Asian descent. I work at a bank in Toronto, Canada. I passed my CFA Level I exam and am currently preparing for my Level II exam. Last January, I gave up my 5-year relationship with my girlfriend who was living in another country because she was not willing to move to Canada and she found new love and was about to marry. I congratulated her because I know our relationship could not last any longer due to such long distance.
7 years ago (2002) I signed up on a website called Confidential Connections while I was browsing for dating websites. Since then I’ve been receiving emails from them. Most of the time I ignored those emails as they are just one of the many dating website emails and I already had a girlfriend two years after I signed up on their website (5 years ago). But I noticed that for a period of time, I did not receive any email from Confidential Connections. Instead, I started to receive email from UALadys, UADream, Arladys, Chiladys, etc.
On June 23rd of 2008 (that was 5 months after I gave up my relationship with my ex girlfriend), I received one email from UAladys which stated it was translated for a lady in Ukraine. Her name is Anastasia R. (ID 5008) Her introduction letter went as follows
“Hi iori! (my web nickname)

How are you?

My name is Anastasia, I'm from Chernigov. I looked at your profile and got interested to learn more about you and start communication.

I hope that you will have a look at my profile and photos - maybe we have something in common and can continue this conversation? I really hope so..

Ancient Greeks believed that before people were different- wiser and harmonious, they even looked differently- like two grown together creatures. Gods decided to punish people and make them weaker- they cut every person in two halves and scattered them all over the world. Since that time every person feels himself incomplete and they look for their second halves to acquire harmony.

I think that Greeks were very wise people and this legend has grounds. Sometimes love comes so suddenly and we cannot explain why we have such strong feelings about the person. The feelings that appear when we meet our ‘second half’ are so strong and exciting that all other emotional experiences seem so insignificant.

Do you agree with this opinion?

I hope you will answer me!

With the best wishes,

Anastasia”

Please note that back then I did not have ANY photo in my profile and my profile was hardly complete. And at that time, I wasn’t aware of the fact that emails may actually be written by the agency but not the actual ladies. What I was thinking was that their country must be very poor that the ladies do not even care if the profile was complete or whether there are photos on the profile. I figured they were desperate to marry a foreigner and leave their country. And I thought I would be fighting a downhill battle with the ladies in this country. Although I have never tried marriage agency services, I decided to give it a try. But I only correspond with one lady because 1st , I do not know if these ladies are for real; 2nd, I do not know what the outcome will be; 3rd, their correspondence service costs about $6/letter on average, I do not want to spend all my money corresponding with multiple ladies and only to find this type of agency isn’t working in the end. (And this is exactly what I find out after the trip. Looking back I am proud of the choice I made.) So I replied this lady,
“Dear Anastasia,

How are you? Please accept my apologies for not replying your email earlier. In fact, I was on vacation in Vancouver for the past two weeks. (I just uploaded two photos from my Vancouver trip here!) This is actually my first time to try such services. I hope it will work. I notice in your profile that you are a Pisces. I don't know if you believe in horoscope, I do. Pisces are the best match for Scorpio. (I am a Scorpio.) I am very loyal to my partner. In the modern society where relationships seem so faint and volatile, I value quality and stability. Mutual respect and understanding are the keys to me in a relationship.

Your Greek legend is very interesting. Although I have not heard about this legend myself, I've always had the belief that people are like jigsaw puzzles--they are meant to complete each other to acquire balance. This is why I believe Pisces matches Scorpios. I like travelling, soft rock music, the mountains and the oceans. What's your daily life like?

Sincerely

Calvin”

After about one or two days, I’ve got her reply,
“Hello Dear Calvin!
Thank you for your letter!
I'm glad that you decided to answer me! I saw your pictures- you look very nice! I think we should continue our communication and correspondence and then we will see where it will lead us...
As for astrology, I'm not a big fan of it, but I read horoscopes sometimes and I think there is something there. Also, I believe that if two people are meant for each other- they will be together anyway.
You asked me about my everyday life- now it's very busy time for me as I have my exams session at the University. It will last for 10 days more and after that I will be a free person- I will have my summer vacation!!!
My parents are doctors, I have an elder brother Igor, he has just graduated medical college and now works together with my father.
I enjoy active lifestyle, I like to meet and go out with my friends, spend time close to nature, go to discos.
And what about you? What do you usually do during the day? Do you have a lot of friends? What do you like and don't like in people?
What kind of relationship are you looking for?
I wait for your answer!
Wish you to have a nice day and a good beginning of the week.
Bye,
Anastasia”

Impressed by the innocence and sweetness of the letter, and NOT being aware of whether this letter was written by the agency or the lady, I decided to continue our correspondence. Since then I had been corresponding with her on a weekly basis. Because I was busy during the week, I sent her one to two letters each week. *Her replies* were usually very prompt. (usually within 1 or 2 days) I thought this lady must be serious about this relationship. As time goes by, I FELT my relationship with this lady (according to the letters) was growing stronger and stronger.(you can read my letter correspondences here at www.ualadyscam.com ) Besides weekly correspondences, I sent her flowers, chocolates, toys, clothes(even underwear) through the agency website. She seemed to be very receptive to my gifts and thanked me and complemented me in her replies every time I sent her gifts. (you can read these from my correspondence letters) After corresponding for about half a year, I finally decided to visit her. In the reply letter, her reaction to my decision was,
“I hope you will come to Ukraine soon. Not only because I want to know what you bought me ;-))), but also because I want to meet you in person and learn you better. Come here, please, as soon as possible.” (her reply on Dec. 12th, 2008)
“I want you to know that I am with you though I am far away fom you. By the way, I won’t have a day-off from my studies too. ;-))) :-*” (her reply on Dec. 23rd, 2008)
“It’s nice that I’ll meet you soon in Chernigov. I’m looking forward to this day, my dear.”…” I feel nervous. ;-)) Our meeting is very important and I hope you’ll like me in real life, but at the same time I feel so nervous. ;-))” (her reply on Dec. 29th, 2008)
“I celebrated the New Year with my friends. It was a home party, but we were in the center of the city and we came back home. I felt alone, because you were far away from me and I wished I could celebrate this holiday with you. I hope it will happen the next time.” (her reply on Jan. 3rd, 2009)
“I know that you will probably not have chance to read my letter before you come to Ukraine. I guess you have started your trip already... I feel very very excited.. I want to see you so much!
I couldn't fall asleep last night... I was thinking about you... I cannot wait till I see you tomorrow... I wait for you!
Kisses-kisses-kisses!” (Jan. 17th, 2009)

After reading *her letters*, I felt that she was very very very excited about my coming and she was very passionate about meeting me and showing me around the city. I was also excited to come and meet her finally because I have been corresponding with her for over half a year and I cannot believe I was going to meet the lady finally.

The following part will be my description of the 7 day journey after I arrive in Chernigov (I was originally planning to stay in Chernigov for 14 days, but the experience was so bad that I cut my journey short once I felt the relationship wasn’t going anywhere. Please read on.)

Day 1, Sunday, January 18th, 2009

After 14 hours of flight, I finally arrived in Kiev International Airport. Kiev is a metropolitan city just like many big cities in Canada or the States. The only difference is the language and some building design (as they are still a little bit former Soviet style) At first I was thinking they must be living at a time a little bit post the primitive stage of the homosapiens. But I was wrong, in the small city I visited, they have supermarkets selling Hagen Das, they have clubs that play the latest HipHop from Europe & the States, they have the latest TV programs from the US such as Gilmore girls & Desperate Housewives translated into Ukrainian. Since I am not a big fan of TV episodes, I can only recognize these two. They have cellphones and wireless services as advanced as ours in the US or Canada. They have internet café everywhere. (as opposed to what they used to say on their website that most of the ladies do not have internet access) From that time on I immediate sensed that I wasn’t fighting a downhill battle, it was more like a leveled ground if not an uphill battle.

Around 3:15pm, I finally arrived at the café I am supposed to meet her. As soon as I saw my lady, I immediately gave her a big hug. She was smiling and happy to meet me. But I felt that she wasn’t as thrilled as she described in the letters. My first thought was that, “ok, maybe it’s her first time meet me in person, she’s a little bit nervous. Maybe that’s fine.” Because I chose the Introduction to a Lady Service, which cost me $50.(I didn’t choose their trip package because they were overpriced. The agency charged me $150 for my trip from Kiev airport to Chernigov. On my way back from Chernigov to Kiev airport, I paid approximately $50 to take a taxi! And I am pretty sure that I can live on my own and my lady will take care of me and be my guide after I arrive there.) According to their *rule*, my first meeting with the lady must be accompanied by an interpreter from the marriage agency. The interpreter stayed there for half an hour (as their maximum), took a photo of me and the lady together and have me signed an agreement about their services which I could not read through at that time because I just got off a 14 hour flight and I am sitting in front of the lady I’ve been corresponding for half a year for the first time. I signed it anyways. I expressed how excited I was to finally meet her. Then we talked about her study in school. Finally I took her to the hotel where I booked on arrival to give her the Christmas gift (a white Danier Leather Jacket) I promised in one of my letters (December 11th, 2009). I also brought some gifts for her family members. (I can tell you those gifts are not cheap gifts, but they are not too expensive either. I want to keep the balance since it was first time gifts.) So I gave all to her. After she received the gifts, I asked her if she wants to go for dinner somewhere tonight. She said she needed to prepare for her exams tonight. I said I understand. So I walked her to the taxi, paid the taxi driver, exchanged phone number and kissed her good-bye. I was alone in the hotel at around 5:30 pm in the afternoon. Not knowing where to get food and where else I could go. I decided to go to sleep to avoid getting hungry later on. I tried to text msg her good night before I went to sleep. Only to find out the next day that she did not put the “+” sign in front of her phone number (that’s how it works in Ukraine) thus I could not send text msg to her. So that was the end of day 1.

Day 2, Monday, January 19th, 2009

9 a.m. I arrived at the agency’s office in Mega Centre. The lady interpreter photo copied my passport (as *required* by the agency) and gave me a service quality survey. Because the interpretation service was satisfactory, and I don’t have any other services to compare, and most importantly, I didn’t realize the problems and suspicious I encountered in the later days, I gave them a good review and signed at the bottom. Then I asked the interpreter about the problem sending text msg to my lady. She told me I have to put a “+” sign in front of the number in order to reach the mobile number. So I text msg my lady some sweet words to cheer her up for her exam. I didn’t receive any replies. And I didn’t receive any phone call from her. Not to mention coming to my hotel for a visit. I was thinking to myself, I came all the way for this girl, and I wasn’t going to stay here for long, is she really THAT busy that she could not squeeze even half an hour to check how I was doing and if I needed anything? Especially considering I am staying in a completely new country I know nothing about?

So that day I didn’t call her considering she must be busy preparing for her exam. And to my surprise, she didn’t call me, considering she knew I was already here and she “was excited about my coming”. Instead, I have to spend the whole day by myself, trying to look for an adapter to recharge my dying batteries in my cell phone and laptop.

Day 3, Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

I purchased another 4 hour interpretation service from the agency and personally gave the interpreter some extra tips. And on my request to the agency to meet my lady again, I finally meet her in a restaurant around 2 p.m. She was wearing the Danier jacket I bought for her. This time, I bought 7 roses for her. When she saw the roses, she was very happy. In the restaurant, I ordered red wine for the two of us. With the help of the interpreter, we talked about her study and some other trivia things. Everything was going smoothly except that the interpreter made the meal less romantic. But without the interpreter, we’ll doom to look like elephants talking to chickens—English vs. Russian. After the meal, we went to a shopping mall called Mega Centre, where I bought her a wedding ring on the spot. She seemed very happy with the ring and put it on the wedding finger. Seeing this, I assumed she was ready to marry me. (later I realized this was just an act to satisfy the rules!!) I suggested we watch a movie. She said she needed to prepare for another exam. (I don’t know if this is true.) So we kissed good bye after I send her the ring. So today I met her for about 2 hours just for the meal and the ring.

Day 4, Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Yesterday afternoon, after I said good bye to my girl, I asked the interpreter to get me some information about the movie times from the cinema. So this morning, I asked my girl to go out for a movie with me in the afternoon. She agreed. I was happy, thinking that I can spend some quality time with my girl. In the afternoon, we met around 3 pm. When I met her, I noticed that she wasn’t wearing the wedding ring I bought her. That bugged me every minute because if she is to marry me, wouldn’t she need to put a ring on the finger so that other guys know what NOT to do? But I didn’t bother to ask , I just assumed she put it down today and forgot to wear it. Since the movie starts at 4 pm, I invited her to come to my hotel to show her some of my other trip photos on my laptop. She agreed. Then in the middle of showing her the photos, I tried to kiss her several times, but she wasn’t so receptive. I tried to make a move on her, she refused. I was thinking to myself, “WTF!! You are going to be my wife? Why are you trying to avoid me?” I started to be a little bit suspicious, I asked her, “honey, do you know where to register our marriage?” She said, “I am sorry, I don’t understand what you said.” Then I said again, “where can we register our marriage?” Then she said, “I wasn’t thinking about marriage yet. I only know you for a few days.” Hearing this, I was thinking, “WTF? A few days? I’ve been paying the agency to send you letters for the past half a year and paid to send you numerous gifts and now you said you only know me for a few days? What happened to all the sweet words in your letter? What happened to ‘Especially I like a guy in these pictures’ (Dec. 19th, 2008) and ‘I want to meet you so much!!.’ (Dec. 9th, 2008)??” But what I said was, “Honey, the reason I came all the way here is to marry you. You know I love you. I only have two weeks here. I want to start the process soon.” But then what she said was something like: I only know you for a few days; I still need to finish my study here; I still have two years of university left; and marriage is a serious matter, I cannot marry you so fast. I was thinking, “WTF! We’ve been corresponding for over half a year and you almost know everything about me. And the agency I am paying to is a marriage agency! If you don’t have the intention to marry, why the fuck do you come to this agency?? Why not just go to some dating sites!!?? Besides, I only have two weeks here, if we don’t start the marriage as soon as possible, it won’t be done before I leave! Moreover, you can study whatever you like in Canada where quality of education is much better than here!” But what I said to her was, “ok, honey, if you haven’t made up your mind, we’ll wait.” Around 4 o’clock, when I was about to stand up and go for the movie, she suddenly said, “sorry, I just received a phone call, my mum came back today and I need to cook for her. I cannot go to the movie today.” (please note that she told me before in person and in on of the letters that her mum works in Kiev and ONLY come home on weekends, that day was Wednesday NOT weekend!) I was outrageous! But I did not let it out. I politely said to her, “if your mum is here, ok, we’ll go another time. You have a good time with your family tonight.” So that’s the end of Day 4…angry and frustrated.

Day 5, Thursday, January 22nd, 2009
Because today she needed to prepare for an exam tomorrow, I didn’t want to interrupt her. So I sent text msg to wish her good luck. But I got no reply from her. No phone call. I was puzzled. But I assume she was extremely busy with her study. I forgave her. That was the end of Day 5. Lonely and puzzled.

Day 6, Friday, January 23rd, 2009
Today is her exam day. In the morning, I sent text msg to her to wish her good luck. No reply. In the afternoon, I tried to call her and ask her how she did in the exam. No one picked up the phone. Immediately I went to the agency and ask the interpreter to call her to arrange a time for family dinner. When the interpreter called her, she picked up the phone! I was soooo annoyed. When the interpreter told me she agreed to set up a family dinner with me tomorrow evening. I thanked the interpreter and left the agency office. And that was the end of Day 6. Lonely and annoyed.

Day 7, Saturday, January 24th, 2009
Today I didn’t meet her until dinner time. For the dinner, I reserved a table of 6 at a very fancy restaurant. I expected her whole family will be here: her brother, her father, her mum, and herself. The dinner was scheduled at 7 pm. Dressed in suit and tie, I arrived at the restaurant around 6:30. I set up my laptop so that I could show her family members some photos about me and my family. I ordered one of their most expensive Champaign and 6 glasses. The interpreter arrived around 6:45. At around 7 o’clock, my girl showed up, but only by herself. When I requested the interpreter to ask her where her other family members are. The interpreter explained to me: her mum didn’t want to come; her dad got an emergency call from the hospital. And I didn’t get any reason for her brother. Anyways, since the table has been booked, and she is here, the dinner has to go on. During the entire dinner, she was talking about one of her trip to Baturin. That night, the dinner failed to serve its purpose, which is to introduce myself to her family members to prepare for the marriage. According to the interpreter, my girl’s father was aware of what the girl is doing in the agency. He had come to the agency with his daughter several times. What I was thinking was that if he is serious about allowing his daughter to marry a foreign guy, why will he not see who his daughter is going to marry to before he allows his daughter to marry? The hypothesis I have for this was that: 1. The interpreter was lying, the girl’s father never knew what the girl was doing, so the girl is conspiring with the agency, the girl didn’t even tell her father that I invited all of them for a family dinner; 2. The girl is lying, she did not tell her family member about my invitation and she made up those excuses; 3. The girl is not lying but her family members cannot care less about showing up to this dinner. In any case, the fact is none of her family members showed up and I don’t know what the hell they were talking about between each other in Russian. Maybe they were talking how to make up a perfect story for me! That night I was frustrated…again.

Day 8, Sunday, January 25th, 2009
After so much frustrating experiences, I made up my mind to give her a final test to see if she IS really into me. My plan was to tell her that I needed to leave tomorrow due to some company emergency and that I want to meet her the last time for this trip. If she IS really into me and appreciate my time for coming here to visit her, she should show it by some actions! So in the morning, I called her and tell her about my company emergency and that I wanted to meet her tonight for the last time of this trip. She agreed to go to dinner with me at 6:30. Before our appointment, I bought a bottle of Champaign and two glasses. When she met me at 6:30, I brought her up to my hotel. I was going to surprise her with the Champaign. And to MY surprise, when she saw the Champaign, she told me she already drank Champaign today in her friend’s birthday party. I asked half jokingly, “What happened to your exam studies!!??” She didn’t reply. Maybe she didn’t get what I asked. But anyways, that got me thinking about what she had been doing all these days. Was she really that busy??
After half an hour, and one glass of Champaign, I tried to kiss her and make some further move on her. She refused. I tried harder. She still refused. I told her, “Honey, tonight is my last night here. I want to have a great time with you.” She still refused. I almost got mad! Then around 7:30 I decided to go for dinner. She suddenly told me she needed to go home now because it’s late. I was thinking, “WTF??!! Late?? I am leaving tomorrow and you can’t even spend another hour with me?? I came all the way from Canada 16 hour flight to see you and you say it’s late??!!” I didn’t argue because there was no point: she speaks Russian and she’s not into me. I let her go. And then I left immediately the next day.

After I came back to Canada on January 26th, I immediately sent an email to the interpreter complaining about my experience,
“Hello from Calvin‏

Dear Evgenia,

How are you today? I arrived around 4 a.m. this morning and I am already working today. I want to tell you the reason why I cut my trip short. It is not because of any company emergency but because I didn’t see the passion in her eyes. I don’t feel I was being treated right. I never received any call from her to ask how I was doing. Every time I want to meet her, I need to call her or call you to initiate the meeting. She didn’t seem to care about me. I know she has exams etc. But was it too much to spend one hour a day or just one phone call from her during a 24 hour period to let me know that she cares about me? I don’t know if she really meant it when she wrote those letter correspondences to me. I felt really frustrated and sad. But I thank you for your effort.

Sincerely

Calvin”
Up to today by the time I post this blog (February 2nd, 2009), I still have not got her reply yet (I’ve checked both my inbox and junk mail box). Maybe she will say later, after reading this post, that my email was in her junk mail.

I’ve created a website to post all my correspondences with the lady. My member ID on their website was 96146.
Please note that I am not a professional web developer, I used the office front page templates to create the website. The purpose of the websites is just to show you my true correspondences and pictures.
Please take care of yourselves,
Sincerely
Calvin
